From  31st Oct to 12th Nov 2021 in Glasgow (UK) there will be a crucial event for the entire world: the UN Climate Change conference 2021 – better known as COP26 –  organised by the UK in collaboration with Italy. During these 12 days of workshops and discussions four goals need to be achieved:
1. Secure global net zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach
2. Adapt to protect communities and natural habitats
3. Mobilise finance
4. Work together to deliver. In particular: i) Finalise the Paris Rulebook (the detailed rules that make the Paris Agreement operational) and ii) Accelerate action to tackle the climate crisis through collaboration between governments, businesses and civil society.  More info here (pdf).

In Milan from 28th to 30th Sept 2021 almost 400 young people aged between 15 and 29 from 186 countries have met to address the main urgencies and priorities of climate action.

The ‘Youth4Climate: Driving Ambition’ meeting in Milan is part of the process of involvement of young people, which started in 2019, also thanks to the support of Italy, with the United Nations Youth Climate Summit, held in New York on 21st Sept 2019. This event, organised by the Government of Italy, in partnership with the UK, dedicated the first two days to the development of a declaration, while the last day featured a discussion on the declaration between the youth delegates and Ministers attending Pre-COP26.

While it is important that governments took consistent actions to protect the environment, it is also imperative that every individual raises their awareness of the fact that every small daily habit can contribute to save or destroy our planet. This is not only related to reducing CO2 emissions – although very important – by changing the way we travel, but includes a wise use of water and avoidance of buying too much food that then it goes to waste, which is an offence to people that don’t have it enough as well as a waste of the many resources employed to generate that food.

Since 2009 when it was founded, EPN Consulting has always taken care of sustainability both as consulting topics and working habits. For this reason, EPN Consulting currently coordinates two Erasmus+ projects in line with these topics: i2SustainIT/”Impact Incubator for Nurturing Sustainability” and the “Collective Innovation to Fight Climate Change“.

Within i2SustainIT, next 18-22 Oct 2021 in Piraeus (Greece) the project will organise a training course on “Design Thinking for Impact Incubation” dedicated to Social Entrepreneurs, Mentors, Investors  where many topics – ranging from social innovation and social business models to the importance of building an effective mentoring relationship with mentees – will be described by several members of the project consortium.
