On 18-19 June 2025 the EPN Consulting CEO, Stefano Mainero, attended MOVE 2025 in London, an event dedicated to sustainable transport and the technology applied to it. Hereafter, his report.
“I attended the #MOVE2025 event in London and I have learnt a lot about the fast-moving field of (intelligent, electrifying, electrified, sustainable, etc.) mobility.
The event was super rich of sessions (probably too many held in parallel, though) covering virtually every aspect of transport.
I have attended tens of sessions and penciled down a few concepts:
- The most recurring concepts I have heard in several session are trust and transparency. As many of us know, data is the new oil and the current systems generate and collect an incredible amount of data.
Once companies are “transparent” about stating how the collect, process, store data is fundamental to generate “trust” in the general public, passengers, drivers, travellers, etc. - Following up on the previous point, the amount of data collected is huge, sometimes too much. Companies and/or service providers are often confused about what to do with data collected and stored as, paradoxically, there are not enough platforms/dashboards able to process these items and generate smart and usable outcomes.
- The concept of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) has become old and synonym of failure or, at least, misalignment between theoretical expectations and practical results. Currently, companies and local authorities work on implementing some principles to make easier and seamlessly travelling from A to B without mentioning MaaS. Personally, I fully agree with this new trend as took part in several MaaS meetings since 2008 but I have never seen what discussed in those days seeing the light.
- There were a few recurring buzzwords, two in particular: Automated Vehicles (AV) and Electric Vehicles (EV). It seems all mobility industry is full concentrated around these two concepts. They regard principally cars, but it include also buses and lorries covering the two main groups of transport customers: passengers and freight. These have been changing the entire mobility world and the way companies and individuals have to adapt.
We at EPN Consulting started in 2009 studying and consulting on ITS and we continue to be passionate about promoting the best way of moving people and freight efficiently, effectively and sustainably”.
